Dear readers,

Chers lecteurs,

As you might remember, Milo, the former owers of the Little White House's cat, decided to come back and live here.

He seems to believe it's the best place in the world and I must say I'm flattered.

My very own cat, Shadow, does not think it's a good idea.

Milo is his worst enemy, but no matter how hard Shadow fights, Milo always comes back... He's like Terminator!

So life has been eventful around here as I've spent a lot of time trying to avoid a cat murder to happen in the house!

It has been decided that the chair I wanted to remove from the living-room is staying and is "Switzerland". Shadow isn't allowed to fight if Milo is on the chair... The rule is more or less observed.

Milo on the Switzerland chair.

Lately, there's been few minutes of peace between them. And it struck me how much alike they are.

Here they are admiring the new kitchen window.

The pictures are not blog-worthy, but when I saw them this quiet, I just knew it wouldn't last. I grabbed the camera without switching the light on or tidying the table (the picture was taken the day they finished the window!).

I swear I didn't ask them to do that!

To the human I am, they look so much alike I don't understand why they fight all the time.

I'm wondering if to them human fights seem also completely ridiculous, since we are also so much alike...

By the way the cats and I are in love with the new window...  Before/after coming soon!

Dear readers,

Chers lecteurs,

I'm pretty sure you're familiar with the "new to me, but actually quite old" pieces we all bring back home...

And you must also know that feeling that sometimes the piece chooses you rather than you choose it.

This is exactly what's been happening lately at the Little White House.

So what do you think I'm going to share with you today?

My "new" cheval mirror? My new Saint-Hubert buffet? My new guéridon (there's a word in English for it?)? My "new" mantel?

Sorry, I was kind of showing off... But, yes, a lot has been happening at the LWH lately...

So that new "piece", here it is:

No, not the chair, the cat!!!

I'm sorry about the mess on the patio... This picture was not taken for blog purpose at first!

He's something new to me, but he's also something old... Right now we're guessing somewhere between 8 and 11 years old... He's also something borrowed, as he's not my cat... I found his owners... I called them. But they told me that given that the cat keeps coming to my house (he's been "appearing" for two years now), they didn't know what to do...

Let me tell you I was a bit surprised when they said so on the phone... I wasn't expecting that at all...

Shadow, my very own cat, wasn't expecting that either... We're trying to adjust... Which basically means that when the cats are together I have to keep an eye on them: Shadow likes to fight!!!

Many people told me it was impossible for two cats that old to get used to each other... But I have faith in time and love, also I'm very patient, which helps a lot!

There's something missing according to tradition... Something blue... So I thought I could show you the pedestal plate I found this morning at an "attic-sale":

Sorry, this not a staged picture at all: the light is crappy as we had the first "autumn-y" weekend of the year... I was just having tea with a friend and thought of taking a picture for my mom to show her my first homemade petits beurres, made with a mold she gave me.

Well, help yourself, since you're here!

As some American bloggers are facing the first snow storm of the year (no, I can't forecast the weather, but I'm really good at reading everybody's blogs! ), we are blessed with the warmest autumn around here.

The stone bench is the best place to relax when it's warmed by the sun!

When the sun comes down, it's time for good hearty food.

Like a mapple and nut  pie... And a hot herbal tea, with herbs just picked up from the garden.

Occasionally, it gets quite cold in the eveving...

Then the bathroom heater is the place to be. Please tell me your jaw dropped when you noticed the wonderful job the previous owner did with the painting of the wall !!!

Thanks to all of you who send well wishes to my kitty... I had to give him a medicine for three weeks; unfortunately, the medicine didn't exist with a "mouse" flavor, so it was not that easy to get him to swallow it! You can imagine that there were dark cat medicine stains on all my clothes...

A very special thanks to the vet who always kept his calm, even when I called him three times a week and stayed at the clinic after the usual closing time because I was finishing work late and I wanted him to check on my cat... I know that kind of human being is not so common.

So here's our motto for now:

Wishing you all a calm and happy autumn...

Dear readers,

Chers lecteurs,

First of all, I'd like to thank all the people who left nice comments lately. It always make my day to read them... Every now and then "overblog" doesn't allow me to write back after the comments... But I always make a point to visit your blogs when you leave a comment.

The renovation is still going on at the Little White House. It's not always a pretty sight.

So far, the new foundation slab is ready.

Du côté positif, la dalle est coulée.

The electricty is being completely redone downstairs.

The water pipes are still floating in the middle of the living-room (they used to be along a wall I'm not rebuilding!).

On the bright side, the tiles began to be laid on the new floor today.

Le premier carreau vient d'être posé.

So rather than showing you depressing pictures, I thought I would share with you some pictures of my mum's garden... Where we spend a lot of time talking about what's the house is going to look like later.

Also, I was wondering if some of you could give me some advice... cat advice.

My darling Shadow is sick: he had an epileptic fit a few days ago.

So far the urea level is OK. It's not diabetis either, it has been checked (I had the results for that a few hours ago). The vet said it could be brain tumour, which freaks me out.

I noticed that lots of you have cats. Have you ever had a cat that had a first epileptic fit when he was an adult?

I will have new pictures of the house in a next post.

Mistress is just way to busy and tired these days to keep her blog updated, so I thought I would give her a paw and tell you a bit what's been going on at the Little White House. Meanwhile, if you don't want to read, you can always play a game: can you spot me in all the pictures?

And, yes, she had planted flowers there, but for some reason, they are not growing well!

First, Mistress is tired because of that endless war she's fighting against Japanese knotweed... But I'm helping by peeing in the spot where it's growing! A gardener came - and it scared me to death as I didn't know him - but apparently he wasn't of much help as, to my relief, he hasn't come back!

Also, Mistress has a new job: that I know because she's kind of in a hurry in the morning and spends more time in the bathroom. On the bright side, the new school isn't far from the Little White House, so she sometimes come back at lunch time, and I think that's prettty cool, since it allows me to go in the garden when it's sunny.

Of course, I stay in when she's working. She says it's in order to save me from the neighbours' dogs. But I bet it's because she wants me to keep an eye on the house!

Today it took all my might to wake her up. Lucky for me, I can be pretty convincing! But then she left the house right after beakfast and came back a few hours later her arms full of junk: I really don't know what she's going to do with that, but she looked really happy. I'm sure she'll tell you all about it later.

She's been yelling "don't come here, I'm painting" a few times lately, so chances are she'll have a project to show you in a little while...

wonky bush

Yes! I'm on that picture! Can't you see me?

Shadow in bush 2

Also, her next project is to transform the wood boards that are on the patio into a box to collect rain water. Isn't she crazy? Wait!!!! Why am I not on this picture?

Eh, stop! Pourquoi ne suis-je pas sur cette photo? C'est scandaleux!

Sorry, I have to go hunt some mice/birds/butterflies/earthworms or Bastet only knows what!

I was looking through old pictures because I wanted to show you my former homes. Unfortunately I wasn't a blooger at the time so it didn't seem important to me to do before and after pictures, as I had no one to show them to. I couldn't find a one picture of the flat I lived in for a few months between the Paris studio and the flat I entirely redid.

Baby Shadow

However I did find some picture of Shadow as a kitten... They do show a glimpse of the flat, which had a lot of white and some pine furniture. You can see that they are not "decorating magazine" picture when you spot the mess on the left chair and on the buffet!!!

Baby Shadow-Tarzan

Obviously, no one's looking at the background and everybody is focusing on that little furry Tarzan. He was alreally full of energy and didn't sleep at night! Did I mention this was a one-room flat?

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures: I only had a disposable camera!

So no before/after for this home, but if you want a before/after of the cat, go see here or here or even here.

Stay tuned for scenes from our next episode (please read that out loud with Gibbs's voice from NCIS)...

This is just a little teaser - a before picture - for a post to come about my #3 home.

Hi everyone!

I hope everybody had a nice Christmas. I left the Little White House in a rush: the weather forecast wasn't good and so I took an earlier train to be sure to be with my family for Christmas... with the cat and a bag full of presents!!! Some were still unfinished as lots were homemade this year and I spent the 8-hour train journey embroiding different things, with lots of people watching me and asking me if I thought I would be ready for Christmas!

Of course, no broadband or even Internet connexion at my grandma's... But  there's the best attic where I was allowed to go have a look and I found some treasures. She looked at  some of those objects disdainfully saying they were old things not fit for "modern girls" like me! Those I kept as Christmas presents from her to me: it was cheap for her and I wouldn't have been happier if she had bought me  something. I can't show you pictures or anything right now as a) I'm not home to upload pictures on the blog - b) I won't bring back these items before next holidays as I will travel back home by train and I'd rather bring back my cat, who is already quite heavy!

In my last post I had written about a little cat-cident I had, so here it is:

I wish the last days of 2010 to be peaceful ones for you.

See you next year,

A l'année prochaine,

Lots of people asked me how my cat was adjusting to his new life. Just fine!!! He just loves the new house, mostly because he spends most of the time in the garden, but also because there's a staircase, which is just wonderful to play his usual morning hide-and-seek.

Climbing is so much fun, especially now that I don't need Mistress to get down (the getting down part was tricky at the beginning!).  I took brid-watching to an other level!

Busy sunbathing...

Trop dur, cet été!

I kept my good habit: drinking tap water... directly from the tap!

Even if it rains, the porch is great to keep bird-wathcing.

A good nap, dreaming about birds...
